Mike Burk

With inspiration from Joseph Granville, Mike Burk began developing technical trading systems in the 1980’s.

The pieces came together for an objective timing system in the late 1980’s when he discovered that the overall market environment could be determined by looking at new lows.

In early 1990 he developed MIRAT (Mechanical Intermediate RAnge Timer) a breadth based mechanical timing system that, in back testing, generated a 20%-21% annual return on long positions using the S&P 500 or 26%-27% annual return trading long and short. The returns continued real time until 1999 while trading slightly more than twice a year.

MIRAT was marketed by Tools for Timing, Equis international and Wall Street Software from 1990 until 2000 and was in wide use by individuals and money managers through most of the 1990’s.

Mr. Burk took MIRAT and its derivatives off the market at the end of 2000, but he continued to write a weekly market commentary that was distributed free to his previous clients. In late 2003 he decided to make that commentary available to anyone interested.
